Schools, parents, carers, local residents and businesses are all invited to give their views on planned changes to admissions at a number of schools across Derbyshire.

Derbyshire County Council has opened up consultation for anyone who may have an interest in alterations to a school’s pupil intake or normal areas.

This round of consultation includes proposed admission number changes for the following schools:

  • Whitwell Primary School
  • Middleton Community Primary School

The changes are proposed for the start of the 2028/2029 academic year.

To find out more about what's being put forward for each school, visit the School admission arrangements 2028 to 2029 page on the DCC website.

As communities across Derbyshire are affected by population changes, particularly as a result of new housing developments, the council needs to plan ahead to ensure each of its schools can offer sufficient places for the number of children expected to need them, so that all children have the opportunity to attend their local school if that is their family's choice.

This consultation is not just for parents of children already at any of these schools.

It may be that you are a parent of a pre-school child, and thinking about where they may go once they reach school age. Or you may be a resident living near a school, or have a local business which could be affected by changes.

Consultation is a crucial part of ensuring that we make the right decisions for our communities, and I would encourage anyone with an interest in any of the schools which are proposing changes to visit our website to find out more and to have their say on what is being planned.

The consultation process runs until 30 November 2026.

If the school your child attends, or is likely to attend in future, is a voluntary aided, foundation or academy school, details of any proposed changes should be found on the school’s own website.
